Stefania Capecchi

Associate Professor

Ph.D in Social Research, Stefania currently works as an Associate Professor of Social Statistics at the Department of Political Sciences, University of Naples Federico II (Italy).
Previously, she has been responsible for the Laboratory of Statistical Analysis of the same Department. She has been a visiting researcher at OECD Directorate for Education (Paris) in 2016, and at Eurofound (Dublin, Ireland) in 2014. Her research interests and papers span both survey methodology and ordinal data modelling. Her main topics refer to well-being measurement, policy assessment, education and job satisfaction evaluation.
Among other, she has been in charge of guidance evaluation services.

Carmela (Melina) is Associate Professor of Statistics in the Department of Humanities and Adjunct Professor at Luiss Guido Carli University in Rome. In 2002 she has been awarded the “Young Statistician Best Paper Prize” from the scientific committee of Computational Statistics International Conference. During her career she has participated in various national and international research project and she has visited several international institutions such the Imperial College (UK) as academic visitor, the Washington University in St. Louis (USA) and the University of Canterbury (NZ) as invited academic visitor, and the Yale University (USA) where she has worked as research associate.
Her research centers around multivariate data analysis methods with a special focus on non parametric regression and classification, clustering, fuzzy methods, change point analysis of time series. She is member of the Italian Statistical Society.

Maria is Associate Professor in Statistics at Department of Political Sciences, University of Naples Federico II. She teaches Statistics and Generalized Linear Models. The main research interests focus on ordinal data models; mixture models; models for latent variables. She has been visiting researcher at Lancaster (UK), Genève, Iowa and London school of Economics Universities. She is Coordinator for the Erasmus+ Programme – Key Action 1 with Technische Universität Dortmund Fakultät Statistik – Dortmund – and Athens University of Economics and Business – Athens. Moreover, she participated as researcher in competing research projects, funded by the Italian Government: PRIN 2006, PRIN 2008, and FIRB 2012 and she has been the Principal Investigator of the SHAPE project. She is currently active member of the research groups Challenges for Categorical Data Analysis (CCDA); Big Data Analytics in sports and Woman in fintech. She collaborates with scholars in economics and experts in international relations at the Bank of Italy. She is Associate Editor of Journal of Royal Statistical Society – C. She has been awarded with grants with an international profile as the Fulbright research scholar.

Full Professor of Statistics from 1986 to 2019 at the Faculty of Political Sciences at the University of Naples Federico II. Visiting Fellow at the University of Lancaster (UK), Madison (USA), Genève (CH), Madrid (E), Munich (D) and Christchurch (NZ). He has been President of Corso di Laurea magistrale in Scienze Statistiche per le Decisioni (LM82). He has been involved in researches and projects related to the monitoring and evaluation aspects of the University teaching; then, he directed the VER projects of the Orientation services of the University of Naples Federico II, for the years 2002-2004 and 2007-2008.
Founder and Head of the Department of Statistical Sciences from 1997 to 2002; previously, he directed the Istituto Economico-Finanziario from 1992 to 1995. In the period 1970-2010 he has been member of the “Centro di Specializzazione e Ricerche Economico-Agrarie per il Mezzogiorno” (a public research institution) where he cooperated to research and teaching activities. He has been member of the Scientific Board of the Center (until 2001) and, later, he was appointed to represent the University of Naples Federico II in the Governing Board of the Center. Member of the American Statistical Association (ASA) and Italian Statistical Society (SIS). He was elected member of the SIS Board of Directors (1986-1990) and coordinated the National Scientific Committee on “Time Series Analysis” promoted by SIS. He has been Associate Editor for several scientific journals. He is the author of almost 200 scientific works (articles, monographs, reviews, textbooks and books) on statistical methods, inference theory, time series analysis and ordinal data modelling (CUB models). He is a coauthor of the book “Metodi statistici per le analisi economiche” which was a reference textbook widely used for University courses in Italy in the years 1980-2000. Also, he is author of the book “Introduzione all’analisi delle serie storiche”, which has been for several years the only book published in Italian on ARIMA models and time series analysis. In recent years, he published the textbooks: “Statistica” and “Statistica per le decisioni”. He has taught University courses (for undergraduates, master and Ph.D. students) on the following topics: Statistics, Economic Statistics, Time Series Analysis, Spatial Statistics, Computational Statistics, Econometrics, Probability, Statistical Theory, Theory of Stochastic Processes, Statical Models.

Rosaria Simone is a tenure-track Assistant Professor (RTD-B) in Statistics at the Department of Political Sciences of the University of Naples Federico II (Italy). In March 2015, she awarded the PhD in Mathematics at the University of Basilicata (Italy), with studies in Probability and Mathematical Statistics. Current research interests and expertise in statistical methodology and applications include: categorical data analysis and modeling, with focus on ordinal rating and ranking data; classification and regression techniques, model selection and uncertainty measurement; computational statistics, software development; mixture distributions and flexible modelling. She is associate editor for EJASA Electronic Journal of Applied Statistics, member of the Editorial Staff of IJAS Italian Journal of Applied Statistics and member of the Editorial Committee of Statistica & Società.

Domenico is associate professor of Statistics at the Department of Political Science of the University of Naples Federico II and contract professor at the Department of Law of University Suor Orsola Benincasa of Naples. He is associated editor of the journal Computational Statistics and editorial manager of Statistica Applicata – Italian Journal of Applied Statistics. He has co-authored two books on Quantile Regression and among 100 papers, book chapters, proceedings, post-proceedings and editorials on several statistical topics. He teaches statistical inference, data analysis, applied statistics and statistical programming. His research interests include quantile regression, computational statistics, statistical models, exploratory data analysis and visualization.
